Sehri Group of Companies, the maker of Yellow Heart mustard oil, is expanding its premium oil production after receiving industry recognition from the government as India’s traditional oil sector sees growing demand for health-conscious products.
The Haryana-based company, which won “The Best Oil Industry Award ” has positioned itself in the premium segment with its cold-pressed mustard oil that boasts higher monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) content than conventional olive oil.
“Our commitment to quality begins at the farm level,” says Sachin K Mittal, founder of Sehri Group. “When we started this journey with traditional cold-pressing methods, our vision was to preserve the authentic qualities of mustard oil while meeting modern health standards. Today’s market validation shows we were on the right path.”
“Our focus on traditional processing methods while maintaining strict quality parameters has helped us build trust in the market,” added Ajay Khullar, CEO. Laboratory data shows Yellow Heart oil contains 74.5% MUFA compared to 69% in virgin olive oil, with significantly higher omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid content.
The company’s accolades include the “Delhi Shree Award ” for Young Industrialist, highlighting the growing recognition of traditional oil processing in India’s food sector.
Industry analysts note that cold-pressed oils are gaining market share as health-conscious consumers seek alternatives to refined oils. “The premium segment has shown resilience despite inflationary pressures, with consumers willing to pay more for proven health benefits,” said a leading industry consultant.
With over three decades of experience in mustard oil production, Sehri Group has developed stringent sourcing protocols, rejecting entire batches that don’t meet their MUFA content requirements. The company’s cold-pressed oil maintains a high smoke point of 250°C, comparable to premium cooking fats.
The expansion comes as India’s edible oil industry faces pressure to reduce import dependency. Domestic producers like Sehri Group are leveraging traditional processing methods to capture market share from imported alternatives.
Market data indicates growing consumer awareness of MUFA-rich oils’ health benefits, particularly in reducing cardiovascular disease risk. Yellow Heart’s focus on higher MUFA content and traditional processing appears well-positioned to capitalize on this trend.
The company is also seeing growing demand from Middle Eastern markets, where traditional cold-pressed oils are gaining popularity among health-conscious consumers.
Beyond its flagship mustard oil, Sehri Group has diversified into premium rice and pulse exports, as well as tea, leveraging its established quality control systems. The company’s Basmati rice line, aged for optimal aroma and texture, specifically targets consumers in the Gulf region with its non-sticky, long-grain variety that complements local culinary preferences.
The company’s pulse portfolio includes carefully processed varieties like Kabuli Chana, Masoor Dal, and Urad Dal, all meeting stringent food safety requirements. “Our expansion into rice, pulses and tea follows the same principle as our oil business – premium quality backed by rigorous processing standards,” explains Mittal. Each product undergoes thorough cleaning, sorting, and testing in HACCP and ISO-certified facilities to meet Gulf import specifications.
“We’re seeing significant interest from distributors in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where premium Indian mustard oil is increasingly recognized for its health benefits and authentic processing methods. There is also interest for our rice, pulses and tea,” said Khullar. The company plans to establish a distribution hub in Dubai to serve the growing Gulf market.
The Dubai hub strategy could prove crucial for Sehri Group’s broader international expansion. Market research indicates European mustard oil revenues are growing at 4.7% annually from 2025. European consumers are increasingly drawn to natural, organic cooking oils, with mustard oil gaining recognition through endorsements from celebrity chefs and food influencers.
“Dubai’s strategic location and robust trade infrastructure make it an ideal gateway for reaching both European and African markets,” explained Khullar. The company is pursuing organic certifications and developing innovative product lines, including culinary oils and dressings, to appeal to health-conscious global consumers while leveraging Dubai’s established trade routes to optimize distribution.
